When gatherings are primarily for the purpose of those who already know Christ – maturing in Him, why are so many Pastors preaching the Law?
In Galatians 5, Paul contrasts the works of the flesh with the fruits of the Spirit, closing the comparison with the words “Against such there is no law.”
Galatians 5:22-23 says: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” then finishes with “Against such there is no law.”
Even earlier in Galatians, Paul taught the purpose of the Law: “Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.” (Galatians 3:24-25)
The law is for those who have never been born again, born of the Spirit. Once you are born of the Spirit, there is only one way to live for Him: Being filled with the Spirit!
My question: Why are there so many preachers who are constantly preaching the Law to their saved believers, as a way to live, causing their SAVED, already in the FAMILY OF GOD, Holy Spirit sealed believers to focus on less than what they should be thinking on – which is being filled with the Spirit and representing Christ?
So much division and purpose-less living is found amongst us, those called by Christ to live for His eternal purpose. Why? The law was designed to help the dead – not to be the focus of those born into spiritual, eternal life – with the Holy Spirit living in us!
Some Truths about Preaching Law versus Being Spirit Filled:
First, preaching the law to saved people who have already been saved – keeps them focused on earthly living, not Kingdom living!
We, the born into God’s Kingdom, will never live for eternity until we all surrender to being filled with the Spirit. Everything else is a complete and total waste of time in the eyes of eternity.
Secondly, the biggest lie that has killed the Church’s purpose is the lie that you have to follow the Law to be filled with the Spirit. That’s a lie. You don’t follow the Law to be filled with the Spirit. That is a lie that keeps Christians from JUST choosing to be filled. I was handcuffed by that lie for two decades.
In your flesh you will NEVER, EVER, NEVER, EVER, be good enough to be used by the Holy Spirit. You couldn’t earn salvation, how could earn His filling? Holiness only comes through the power of the Holy Spirit – not earned but humbly asked for and received.
The Church wastes so much time comparing itself to other believers, trying to whiten itself on the outside, when people need to see Christ – and He is only seen through “Love, Joy, Peace, Longsuffering, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self-Control.”
Thirdly: Religious, but lost, folks can stay out of trouble and perform rituals as well as any saved Christian – but they can’t duplicate the power (nor can we if we aren’t filled) of the Holy Spirit which is only available to those who are saved and surrendered to the Spirit’s purpose. A born again believer, not filled, surrendered to the Spirit, looks no different to the world than someone who has never been saved.
In conclusion, the Christian life is grace from beginning to end. We have nothing to offer God that He didn’t already give us. We can only choose to keep it for ourselves or give it back to Him.
Surrender your purpose to Him. Be filled with the Spirit.
It’s so simple that so many have to try and make it more complicated. 🙁 But you don’t have to be a victim of their misapplication of Scripture!
“Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;” – Ephesians 5:17-18
